In a recent update on its website, Discord announced that it is exploring potential integrations with Ethereum. This announcement comes after the release of their own cryptocurrency called ‘Discord Points’ which allows users to purchase monthly subscriptions and in-game items using this currency. The company has also recently begun supporting new currencies such as Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Litecoin (LTC).
The “ethereum discord” is a new feature that will allow Discord users to send and receive ETH through the platform. The Ethereum (ETH) integration is still in beta, but it has been tested by many gamers.
Discord, a gaming-focused instant messaging company, is contemplating letting its 150 million monthly active users to connect to Ethereum (ETH).
On Twitter, Discord CEO and creator Jason Citron announced the platform’s Web 3.0 goal by sharing an image of a pre-release client that had MetaMask and WalletConnect connectors.
Web 3.0 is the platform’s strategy.
“Probably nothing,” Citron said on Twitter, with an image of what seems to be a beta version of the Discord app settings.

The next solution will enable users to connect to Ethereum and will include two supported choices for linking mobile wallets to desktop dapps: Ethereum wallet MetaMask and chain-agnostic WalletConnect.
The popular platform lets users to interact through text messages, digital files, phone and video conversations, as well as private chats and “servers,” which allow for continuing contact.
Integrating a crypto wallet inside the platform’s main offering would allow users to transfer tokens to each other as simple as sending a message, while token-gating select servers might make community airdrops easier.
We’re all going to be millionaires thanks to the Discord airdrop.

Discord’s 150 million monthly active users are scattered over about 19 million active servers every week, and the platform’s new solution might help crypto adoption accelerate substantially. However, this is only if the user base is on board.
User aversion
While a number of major social media platforms have already revealed their teams, plans, and products to carry them, as well as their users, into the new internet era, Citron’s Twitter tease that implied upcoming token adoption sparked some resistance among the gaming community, with concerns about the environment and Ponzi schemes.
Several users threatened to cancel their Nitro memberships, Discord’s major money source, which is effectively a voluntary upgrade, in order to make their point.
Hey, I just cancelled my Nitro, and based on all the other comments and hundreds of downvotes on this feature on your feedback thread, it seems like a lot of other people are doing the same. Any crypto nonsense should be avoided at all costs by Discord.

Others, however, were excited to link their wallets straight once, only to be disappointed when they discovered they couldn’t since Citron’s screenshot contains a teaser pre-release.
But wait, how can I link my wallet? I looked in the connections tab and couldn’t find it. Is this a limited-edition picture or a sneak peek?
